This is my car, an 'Ultra Red' Nissan Micra. I owned a Ford Escort RS2000 but got
rid of it and bought the Micra because I wanted a new car. The original stereo in it
was a piece of crap and the only good point about it was the fact that it had
RDS, this meant that when I listened to JJJ it showed 'Triple J' on the display, as
I said it was a piece of crap. I did not want to pull apart the car myself because
it is new so I went to a local professional car stereo shop to get the system
installed. I wasn't sure where to go, especially after Ian's experience with the
'open the same time as yesterday' spastics, but in the end the purchase and
installation went pretty smoothly.

The head unit is a Clarion single CD player. It is quite simple and easy to use but
I would like to upgrade to a better unit, such as an Alpine 4 volt pre-out 3 CD front
end. The Clarion came out of my old car, and I only needed to buy it because of the
misfortune that befell my original head unit (see Dos and Don'ts).

The front speakers are Alpine DDDrive 6.5" splits. I auditioned many splits and none
matched the DDDrives for sonic accuracy for the price. There is a more expensive set
of DDDrives available but these use the same mid bass drivers and only better tweeters
and I find the high range response of my set quite good enough for my tastes.

The sub is a BASS series Alpine 12 inch in a sealed wood and fiberglass enclosure.

AMPLIFIER

The amplifier is mounted under the front passenger seat (not much space in the boot)
and is a Pioneer producing 4x35 watt at 14.4 volts with 0.04% THD. While it is only
a fairly small amp, the speakers (especially the sub) have high efficiency and only
require a small amount of power to deliver a large amount of volume.
